Day 2Cagliari and its highlights - After breakfast at your Hotel, meet driver and your private guide to start the city tour. Cagliari boasts its origins to 6000-3000 b.C. overcoming several colonizations until 1794, which have left precious evidence of their time. Among the most important sites: the necropolis of Tuvixeddu dating 6th to 5th millennium b.C, the roman Amphitheatre from the 1st century a.C. to the San Saturnino church from the 5th century a.C., and more recent centuries with the Castello Quarter with its ramparts and Cathedral. Around midday transfer to the Poetto, 7km beach which embraces Cagliari and Quartu Sant’Elena town and where the locals love to stroll around all the year through. Here we have chosen an elegant beach restaurant where to enjoy a delicious seafood meal. Time at leisure for a bath or simply relax comfortably. Afterwards our tour goes on exploring one of the hidden places of the city, the Colle di Sant’Elia. One of the 7 hills dominating the city and the gulf of Cagliari, hosts the light house and an ancient military fortress dating late 1700. Enjoy the stunning view over the salt flats, the beach and the city and if you are lucky the pink flamingos moving from a salt flat to the other. On the way back to the hotel, short drive over a second hill, the one of Monte Urpino for some pictures and one more look above the city and its surroundings.
Day 3 - The Sinis Peninsula – Breakfast at the Hotel and departure. Today’s tour focus are the flatlands of the area of Oristano, the natural park of the Sinis Peninsula and its archaeological town of Tharros. Alone the location of this site is the trip worth. Lying on a strip of land surrounded by the sea and overlooking the gulf of Oristano, the place invites you to a walk up to the Capo San Marco Lighthouse. Guided tour of the ancient archaeological site of Tharros, among the most important of Sardinia, a precious evidence of long-lasting human settlements that provide a lecture of subsequent events of the entire Mediterranean: tokens of Neolithic culture, the Nuragic culture, Punic and Roman age and the Byzantine period. Even today you’ll enjoy an amazing SEAFOOD meal at an ITTITURISMO, the restaurant of one of the historical Fish farms in Cabras. The fishponds of the area provide top quality fish from the eggs of which are used to produce the Sardinia caviar ‘’Bottarga’’ excellent to enrich the dishes served in the best restaurants. In the afternoon, visit of a further treasure of this area, the Giants of Mont’e Prama hosted at the Museum of Cabras. Return to Cagliari.
Day 4 - Sarcidano the region of Lakes and archaeology - Breakfast at the Hotel and departure through the countryside. Our today’s destination is the secluded region of Sarcidano, nestled between the flat Campidano and the mountains of Barbagia, a landscape of smooth hills and lakes, home to the remains of ancient civilizations , both pre-Nuragic and Nuragic. Arrival in the area of Orroli and visit of the Nuraghe Arrubiu, red Nuraghe due to the red lichens that colour its basalt stones, among the largest and well preserved protohistoric monument. The archaeological area is an important historical heritage hosting findings from the Neolithic to the Bronze and Iron Ages to relics from the Roman Period and the Early Middle Ages. The today’s lunch is a real Sardinian lunch in an historical and typical Sardinian house converted in a Restaurant-Museum. After the gorgeous meal the afternoon is dedicated to the visit of the Santa Vittoria Nuragic sanctuary of Serri, a sacred monumental complex dating back to the early settlements of Nuragic civilization in 1600 BCE. Despite its secluded location, the archaeological area of the Sarcidano preserves precious evidence of commercial exchanges between ancient civilizations like Etruscans, Phoenicians and Cypriots. Return to Cagliari.
